With every new year comes resolutions, promises, hope, and even fear. People promise they will do something better, accomplish more, hope life will get better, or fear things will not change. Some even fear that things will change.
This Year my husband and I decided to not waste our time with "resolutions"; we made goals instead. Goals can be big or small. A few or many. Goals can be thought up, planned, acted on, and accomplished.
I am inspired by my friend Michelle, an animal advocate who teaches her son the value of animals in our world. Her New Years Resolution was "2013 will be my year to Make A Difference for the rhinos." (Michelle Fryer). I thought this was wonderful! How many people are still thinking about losing weight, working out more, quitting smoking, or one of the many other resolutions made every single year over and over, but never accomplished. How amazing that someone was making a resolution to Help!

I am not saying to not get healthy or think of yourself. I am suggesting we change the way we think. Instead of "I'll Try" make it "I'll Do", Instead of "I hope" make it "I'll act". I get extremely frustrated when people tell me "How Lucky I Am". It's not luck, it's good choices, hard work, and learning from my mistakes. I truly believe we can do anything! We Can Make A Positive Difference! Below is one of my favorite mantra's that I repeat often, both to myself and to others:
POSITIVE THOUGHTS + POSITIVE ACTION = POSITIVE RESULTS!
Believe you can do anything! Be anything! Try Anything! Live Anywhere! The Only Thing Stopping You Is You!
As many of you know I had been struggling with college. Last semester I chose (yes it was a choice) to change how I was approaching things and how I think. I turned "I'll try" into "I will!". It worked! My grades and my attitude improved. I am learning that saying I'll start tomorrow never works. When I make a plan or a goal I start Now! If I stop I am aware I can start again and do it now. If I fail at one route, I try another. I never give up. Yes I have bad days, everyone does. When a bad day comes along I keep it private with just my closest friends and my husband. I firmly believe we should not share cranky with the world or it prolongs the negativity. I know who will help me back on my feet and keep going!
I have a few personal goals this year, but I also have a big one, to be a bigger voice for wildlife. I found that fund-raising helps a lot, and I will keep it going for Wildlife Warriors, but that for me, the biggest results came from educating people. It's great to see faces young & old as they exclaim "I didn't know that" or "I can do that! It's Easy!".
I raised over $1100 fund-raising for Steve Irwin Day last year (lets triple it this year!). My biggest accomplishment, however, was spreading knowledge. I made friends with someone over twitter who did not realize you could help save gorillas by recycling your old cell phone (his daughter wrote my guest blog). Now Dave recycles and tells others. In the grocery store over the holidays when I forgot my bags I told a shocked bag boy to just put it back in the cart I would carry it all home bagless. The shocked people in line asked and got an education on why plastic bags are harmful to wildlife, they all thanked me and said they would spread the word. Even at college in the biology department, science majors learned from me about the devistations of palm oil and how simply reading your ingrediants can save wildlife. Knowledge is power! I'm hoping to help make everyone more powerfull in 2013! If I tell one person and they tell one person and they tell one person..... Look how one person can make a difference!
Now here is what I would like from you:
*Leave a comment here telling me your 2013 goals
*If you see I'm missing some animal knowledge on my website please share! I Love Ideas! this website is always a work in progress. email me at firstname.lastname@example.org I am going to add a kids page this year and need input from all ages (kids please get parents permission).
*Think Positive. Think, I Can. Think, I Will. Believe.
We all know I can talk and type endlessly so I will leave you with this.
Happy New Year! 2013 Will Be Great! Remember to be kind to others, stay positive, and Remember Wildlife!
We Can Make A Difference!
A Huge I Love You and Thank You to my husband Cole who supports me and stays by my side year after crazy year <3 And to all my friends who do the same, Thanks, I love you all!
